Tech Hub: Terms of Use

Use of rooms implies agreement to these rules and guidelines. These are posted in each room and are subject to change without notice.

Agreements for NPL Tech Hub Use

  1. Tech Hub rooms and computers are reserved for digital media projects and are not available for general computer use – i.e. email, social media, browsing etc.
  2. No food or drink to be consumed in the Tech Hub rooms.
  3. The rooms must not be left unlocked/unattended at any time; this includes breaks or leaving at the end of your sessions.
  4. Report any accident, incident, or problem with piece of equipment to NPL staff member immediately.
  5. Equipment is for use in the Tech Hub rooms only and cannot be taken offsite.
  6. Equipment will be left in the Tech Hub rooms in the same place & condition as when the user began booking (normal wear and tear to be expected).
  7. Return the Tech Hub rooms to their original state, or inform staff if unable to do so.
  8. Pays for the loss of or damage to any items and further agrees to accept NPL staff’s assessment of fair restitution for damage, dirtiness, and/or loss of items in part or total. This restitution amount could equal repair costs or as much as the replacement cost of the item.
  9. NPL is not responsible for any manufacturing defects in the quality of workmanship or materials inherent in any of the tools or equipment.
  10. NPL is not liable for any damaged material or media belonging to people using the Tech Hub equipment or facilities.
  11. NPL reserves the right to refuse any request for use of equipment in the Tech Hub.
  12. Any persons may be refused entry or removed from NPL facilities for any behaviour unsuitable to the space.
  13. Tech Hub users agree to abide by NPL’s policies, including: Computer and Internet Access Policy and Library User Rules of Conduct

Guidelines for Intellectual Property

Tech Hub equipment and rooms are to be used for lawful purposes only and cannot be used to create content that is:

  • Prohibited by provincial or federal law.
  • Unsafe, harmful, dangerous, or poses an immediate threat to the well-being of others.
  • Obscene or otherwise inappropriate for the Library environment.
  • In violation of another’s intellectual property rights; for example, the scanners may not be used to reproduce materials subject to copyright, patent, trademark, or industrial design protection.
