#Happy100thNelsonLibrary Video Contest

Share your love for the Nelson Public Library and help celebrate its 100thBirthday in 2020 by entering the #Happy100thNelsonLibrary video Contest. Share your memories, appreciation and stories of time spent at the Nelson Public Library or your hopes and ideas for its future.

Categories, Eligibility and Entry Details

Amazing prize packages will be awarded in three categories:

  • Viewer’s Choice: decided on by likes on Instagram or Facebook
  • Most Touching: decided on by a panel of judges
  • Funniest: decided on by a panel of judges

Applicants must be current or past users of the Nelson Public Library.

Applicants must upload their video to Instagram or Facebook using the hatchtag #Happy100thNelsonLibrary. They must also email a link to their video or a description of their video and their Instagram or Facebook handle to library@nelson.ca with their full name and contact information to be entered in the contest. Applicants without access to a social media account may also request the Nelson Public Library upload their videos using Nelson Public Library’s Instagram account.  Nelson Public Library staff may do so at their discretion.

Deadline and Dates

Entries must be posted online and received by email by Monday January 6, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. PST. Finalists will be contacted January 6th – 16th 2020 and asked to submit a high resolution MP4 file of their video. The winning videos will be announced on January 17, 2020 at Turning Pages: Celebrating 100 Years of the Nelson Public Library. 


Entries must be no longer than 30 seconds long and posted on Instagram or Facebook using the hatchtag #Happy100thNelsonLibrary. Please ensure video recordings are filmed at the highest quality setting available and when possible shoot the video in horizontal rather than vertical format.

All types of videos including live action, animation, Claymation, stop motion and music videos will be accepted. Entries that exceed this time or don’t comply with Facebook and Instagram’s terms of service and community standards will be disqualified. Entrants under 13 years of age should have their video posted by their adult parent or guardians social media account. All video content, including music, must be originally created.


The People’s Choice award will be based on the video with the highest number of likes on Facebook or Instagram at the time of judging.

A panel of judges comprised of the Nelson Public Library Centenary Planning Committee will decide the winners of the Most Touching and Funniest category. Videos will be judged based on whether they demonstrate creativity, an understanding of the theme, technical quality and overall message. Videos should be focused on the Nelson Public Library.

Prizes – to be announced!

Examples of prizes may include…

  • Viewers Choice: ultimate prize pack including whitewater ski, restaurants
  • Most Touching: 1 hour massage and other prizes
  • Funniest: night out including comedy, restaurant

All winning videos will be shown at the Turning Pages: Celebrating 100 Years of the Nelson Public Library event on January 17, 2020 at the Capitol Theatre in Nelson.

By entering this Contest, each Entrant agrees to release and hold harmless the Nelson Public Library and its employees, officers, directors, agents, representatives, and contractors from any and all liability for any injuries, loss or damage of any kind to the Entrants or any other person in connection with this Contest or participation in any Contest-related activities, including but not limited to personal injury, death or property damage. Each Entrant agrees to fully indemnify the Nelson Public Library from any and all claims by third parties relating to the Contest, without limitation.

Nelson Public Library and its authorized agents are not responsible for any lost, late, unintelligible/illegible, falsified, damaged, misdirected, or incomplete entries, notifications, responses, or replies. The Nelson Public Library is not responsible for any computer, online, software, telephone, hardware or technical malfunctions that may occur, including but not limited to malfunctions that may affect the transmission or non-transmission of an entry. The Nelson Public Library is not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by website users, equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest or any technical or human error which may occur in the administration of the Contest. The Nelson Public Library is not responsible for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft, destruction, or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries. The Nelson Public Library is not responsible for any problems, failures or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers, providers, computer equipment, software, email, players, or browsers, on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet, at any website, or due to any combination of the foregoing or otherwise. The Nelson Public Library and its authorized agents are not responsible for any injury or damage to an entrant’s or prospective entrant’s computer or to any computer related to or resulting from participating, attempting to participate or entering the Contest. Entrant assumes liability for injuries caused or claimed to be caused by participating in the contest, or by the acceptance, possession, use of, or failure to receive any prize.

Termination, modification and responsibility

The Nelson Public Library reserves the right, in their sole discretion, to terminate the contest, in whole or in part, and/or modify, amend or suspend the contest, and/or the Contest Rules in any way, at any time, for any reason without prior notice. The Nelson Public Library is not responsible for any errors or omissions in printing or advertising this Contest.

This contest is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by any social media platforms on which the Contest may have been promoted and/or publicized, including but not limited to Instagram, Facebook and/or Twitter.
