Gardens Will Save Us: A Book Reading

Wednesday October 18 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Alanda Greene’s book The Impermanence of Broccoli and Other Lessons from the Garden will resonate with anyone who has ever found themselves wondering about the inter-relatedness of life and how that understanding can meet the global crisis. Greene believes that the skills to build a sustainable future can be found in the garden. She will read from her newly published book on Wednesday, October 18, 7pm at the Nelson Public Library.

Greene says that it is in the garden that “we can learn to listen to other life forms, learn about the healing impact of beauty and presence, gain confidence in the significance of our actions by remembering that small actions can have large outcomes.” For gardening is where she has learnt about herself: “about the concepts, attitudes and behaviours that can unconsciously limit my understanding of how I am connected to the other-than-human beings. It is a non-judgmental context that allows change and insight.”
