Welcome to the Tech Hub

Nelson Public Library’s place for creative technology!

The Tech Hub in the Nelson library is made up of three free spaces where you can work on all sorts of creative audio and visual projects. The Recording Studio houses an impressive collection of microphones, cameras and lightening equipment that you may use during your session. The Media Station has Adobe Creative Suite software you can use for your audio photo, video and design projects.  Our Digitization Station is where you can preserve your memories by digitizing old photos, slides, videotapes, vinyl records and audio cassettes.
All you need is a
library card to get started.

Tech Hub Workshops

Every month a facilitator runs introductory workshops in our Tech Hub. These workshops provide community members an introduction to the tools and potential uses of a given room in the Tech Hub. No experience or technical skills are required to join. Occasionally, a facilitator will run topic-based session in the Tech Hub as well. Check out the events calendar for upcoming workshops in the Tech Hub.

If you would like a one-on-one introduction to a Tech Hub space, please email library@nelson.ca to coordinate a time with a facilitator.

Request a booking

To register to use the Tech Hub, you must be either a Nelson Public Library member or a member in good standing from any other BC Public library: a current library membership card and photo id are required. Upon arrival, you’ll be asked to agree to the policies listed in our Tech Hub Agreement and Release form, which includes accepting responsibility for the space and the cost or equipment repairs or replacements. Users under 14 must be registered and accompanied by an adult.

Come Prepared

Come prepared to make the most of your Tech Hub session! Rooms can be reserved for two-hour slots during open hours, but must be vacated 30 minutes before closing. Bring your own headphones, a USB drive, or a cloud storage account to save your work, as all data is lost once the computer shuts down. For large projects like audio or video, plan for extra storage: MP3s need 1MB per minute, WAV files 10MB, and video up to 1MB per second.

Thank you to Columbia Basin Trust, Regional District of Central Kootenay,
and the City of Nelson for supporting this project!
