Author Reading and Book Launch

The Nelson Public Library is pleased to host an author and book launch featuring two David Thompson University Centre (DTUC) alumni on May 17 at 7 pm. Calvin Wharton will launch his latest poetry collection, This Here Paradise, and Caroline Woodward will read some new short stories to celebrate the event.

Wharton’s work has been published in numerous magazines and anthologies in Canada, the U.S., Wales, Sweden, and Denmark. Wharton is a former chair of Creative Writing at Douglas College, Writer-in-Residence at the University of Wales, and editor of Event magazine.

Woodward writes for children and adults with nine published books to date. Woodward spent 14 years as a lighthouse keeper on B.C.’s west coast, documented in her best-selling memoir, Light Years: Memoir of a Modern Lighthouse Keeper. Recently, she returned to New Denver where she and Jeff George founded and ran The Motherlode Bookstore for eight years.
